Sun Clams [Amphidesmatidae]
Description
Amphidesmatidae, known as Sun Clams, are a family of small to medium-sized marine bivalves. These clams have thin, brittle shells and are characterized by their distinctive radial sculpture which resembles sun rays, hence their common name. They inhabit sandy or muddy substrates in shallow to deep waters, where they burrow and live a sedentary lifestyle. Sun clams are filter feeders, consuming plankton and organic particles from the water column.
