Slipper limpets [Calyptraeidae]
Description
Calyptraeidae, known as slipper limpets, are a family of sea snails with distinctive slipper-shaped shells. These shells are often asymmetrical, with a high internal septum creating a shelf or chamber within. Slipper limpets are usually found in clusters, attaching themselves to hard surfaces or even to each other in stacks. They are filter feeders, consuming plankton and detritus from the water column. Their distribution includes various marine environments, from shallow waters to deeper soft substrates.
