Shoebills [Balaenicipitidae]

Description

Balaenicipitidae consists of a single species, the Shoebill, found in tropical East Africa in large swamps from Sudan to Zambia. The Shoebill is noted for its enormous shoe-shaped bill, which it uses to catch fish, frogs, and even small crocodiles. It is a large bird, standing up to 1.2 meters tall, with a mostly gray plumage and a slow, stalking hunting technique.
