Sea Kraits [Laticaudidae]
Description
Laticaudidae, known as sea kraits, are a family of venomous elapid sea snakes. They are distinguished from other sea snakes by their partially terrestrial lifestyle, as they lay their eggs and digest prey on land. Sea kraits have a distinctive body form with a flattened, paddle-like tail for swimming and are usually found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region. They feed on eels and small fish. Unlike many fully aquatic sea snakes that give birth to live young in the water, sea kraits return to land to reproduce.
