Round Rays [Urotrygonidae]
Description
Urotrygonidae, or round rays, are small to medium-sized stingrays with nearly circular or oval pectoral fin discs and a slender tail equipped with a venomous stinger. They are benthic, often found buried in sand or mud in shallow coastal waters, primarily in tropical and subtropical regions. Round rays feed on invertebrates and small fishes. Their cryptic coloration helps them blend into their surroundings to avoid predators and ambush prey.
