Ranellids [Ranellidae]
Description
Ranellidae, also known as triton shells or ranellids, comprise a family of predatory sea snails. These gastropod mollusks are recognized by their elongated, often heavily sculpted shells, which can produce a loud sound when blown into, similar to a trumpet. Ranellids are active predators, feeding on starfish, sea urchins, and other echinoderms. They are widely distributed in tropical and temperate waters, often found in rocky or coral reef environments.
