Philinids [Philinidae]
Description
The Philinidae family, or Philinids, includes a variety of marine gastropods without external shells. These animals are characterized by their streamlined, often oval-shaped bodies, adapted for a burrowing lifestyle in sandy or muddy substrates. Philinids have a well-developed head shield used for burrowing and feeding on microorganisms in the sediment. Their ability to burrow quickly helps them evade predators and can make them challenging to observe in their natural habitat.
