Parazoanthids [Parazoanthidae]
Description
Parazoanthidae is a family of colonial marine zoantharians that often resemble true anemones but are distinguished by their unique morphological and genetic traits. Members of this family are found in various marine environments from shallow to deep sea, often growing on sponges or other substrates. Parazoanthids are characterized by their yellow, brown, or orange polyps, connected by a thin layer of coenenchyme. They are less commonly seen in the aquarium trade compared to Zoanthidae, but are of significant interest to marine biologists for their ecological roles and symbiotic relationships with other marine organisms.
