Murex snails [Muricidae]

Description

Muricidae, or murex snails, are a diverse family of predatory sea snails. They possess robust, often spiny shells with a pronounced siphonal canal. Muricids are known for their ability to produce a purple dye, historically significant and used in ancient times. These snails are carnivorous, preying on other molluscs and marine organisms through the use of a specialized radula and a venomous harpoon.
