Megamouth Sharks [Megachasmidae]

Description

Megachasmidae, or megamouth sharks, are a rare family of deep-water sharks known for their enormous mouths and small teeth. The megamouth shark (Megachasma pelagios) is the only species in this family and was discovered in 1976. They are filter feeders, swimming with their large mouths open to collect plankton and jellyfish. Megamouth sharks are elusive and poorly understood, contributing to the mystery surrounding deep-sea marine life.
