Deepwater Stingrays [Plesiobatidae]
Description
Plesiobatidae, or deepwater stingrays, consist of a single species, the deepwater stingray or giant stingray. This family is distinguished by its large size, with individuals capable of reaching over 3 meters in length, and a preference for deep oceanic environments. They have a broad, flat body and a long tail with a venomous spine. Despite their size, little is known about their behavior, diet, and reproduction due to the depths at which they reside.
