Carrier Shells [Xenophoridae]
Description
Xenophoridae, or carrier shells, are a unique family of marine gastropods. They are known for their habit of attaching other shells, stones, and even marine debris to their own shells as they grow. This behavior provides camouflage and possibly structural support. They are found on sandy or muddy substrates in many of the world's oceans.
