Barbeled Houndsharks [Leptochariidae]

Description

Leptochariidae, known as barbeled houndsharks, is a small family of sharks distinguished by the presence of a unique barbel near each nostril, which they use to search for food on the ocean floor. This family is represented by a single species, the barbeled houndshark. Found primarily in shallow waters of the eastern Atlantic, including the Mediterranean Sea, these sharks have slender bodies and are relatively small in size, making them less known compared to their larger shark relatives.
